Melatonin Levels and Cannabis

An article, given by the Caregivers for Life Organization, was very beneficial in the detailed information of the Rick Simpson Cannabis Oil, how it helps individuals with cancer and other illnesses. Rick Simpson is an individual that had cancer. His doctors eventually said that there was nothing more that they could do and heard research from an individual by the name of Dr. David Suzuki, with hemp oil. So Simpson started to produced hemp oil and orally ingest it, applied to to cancer on his skin, and within days was cured.
But what I really found interesting in this article that “one of the essential parts necessary for healing our bodies is the pineal gland.” It produces melatonin which is a great fighting again against illness. In cancer patients, melatonin levels tend to be lower. Studies have shown that smoking cannabis increases the melatonin levels in our bodies! Since cannabis oil raises melatonin levels, the body PH is raised causing a detoxifying effect on the body to remove impurities." I found this incredible amazing and literally called my father right away to see if this research has been conducted with him. we have also seen that the melatonin the pineal gland produces is an essential part of healing. "When the function of the pineal gland is impaired, it produces much less melatonin and therefore we become sick and diseased. Melatonin travels to every cell in our bodies and is the key to good health. the cannabis oil helps bring the body's Ph level up, because it is important to have our ph levels in order, especially when aging because as we age we acidify and cancer thrives in acidic environments."  Also that “ the side effects of cannabis oil are sleep, hunger, and an all over sense of well being proper nourishment is vital to a body with disease. When we sleep our cells regenerate so rest is key to fighting off disease”. Yes, ever since i have started eating better and getting more sleep, my body has been feeling great, and honestly i have not been sick at all for 7 months now, since i moved out here pretty much.

According to the Bio Concepts Nutritional News "new research shows that marijuana may protect the brain and nervous system from injury. “A non psychoactive substance from the hemp plant, called HU-211, appears to reduce brain swelling and damage, diminish nerve cell death and improve recovery after head trauma and even stroke ” they also state that "Marijuana has also been shown to increase melatonin to extremely high levels." The University of Maryland Medical Center has shown me that melatonin has many effects on many different illnesses; insomnia, heart disease, menopause, many forms of cancer, adhd, autism, and chronic pain. There are some other illnesses and dieseases that are still conducting research, like epilepsy, that have both good and bad things to say about melatonin and their illnesses. But with cannabis, it can regulate your melatonin levels without having to take the actual pill.

In a medical journal from Epilepsia, doctors had conducted research on children with epilepsy and whether or not melatonin plays a roll on their daily seizure episodes. their results from 12 children were the following: "With the exception of the parents of one child, all reported a significant clinical improvement in seizure activity during treatment, particularly during the night. Sleep studies showed a decrease in epileptic activity in two of the three patients who were monitored during treatment, and a change of sleep efficiency from 84.2% to 89.7% (NS). Improvement in daytime behavior and in communication abilities was reported by parents, although it was not objectively measured"

Charlotte's Web

Could you believe me when i say that a strain of marijuana can save a child's life? Well it has! A strain of marijuana, produced by the Stanley Brothers, out of Colorado Springs, Colorado, low in THC but high in CBD, has helped children with epilepsy, especially those with Dravet Syndrome. CBD is believed to modulate electrically and chemical activity to help quiet active activity in the brain.
Dravet Syndrome is a severe form of epilepsy where a child could have hundreds of seizures a day. This was what was happening to a little girl, by the name of Charlotte Figi. In the video below, it will explain in great detail the back story of Charlotte, and how they came to deciding to take cannabis oil. Charlotte's conditions was getting so bad that she was having up to 300 seizures a week, basically catatonic. Doctors suggested two alternatives induce heavy medications that were nearly killing her, one that the Paige Figi, the mother of Charlotte had to perform CPR because the dosage was just too much, or a medically induced coma. Neither were an option for this family. So the father of Charlotte decided to look up many different alternatives and came across another family that started to use marijuana high in CBD and low in THC. ultimately the Stanley Brothers CBD strain had totally eliminated her seizure count from 300 a week to 0, by just applying small amounts of CBD extracted oil into her mouth to ingest. And 3 months after her first dosage, Charlotte is now walking, and talking!

Charlotte's Web is now helping hundreds of kids now, reported in 2014 more than 41 children had used Charlotte's Web and are seeing significant change. Hundreds are on the waiting list to see if this strain can truly be the answer for all!

Hearing this story develops over time, where we are hearing of more cases like Charlotte's, where children are being seizure free. honestly just warms my heart in hope that my father can one day give medically marijuana a chance. Not only have a seen positive results in cases like these, in the media, but in my every day job, where my patients are telling me that this actually works. I just hope my father can give this plant a chance, so he can also, no longer suffer.

Pros and Cons of Medical Marijuana

Medical Marijuana has a lot of benefits for treating illness, and pain. I was so excited to hear that Colorado had passed a bill allowing the recreational use of cannabis. But I thought that this would then allow more research to be conducted for medicinal use. But still, Doctors and politicians would say, that marijuana will do more harm than good. In fact according to ProCon "A past evaluation by several Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA), concluded that no sound scientific studies supported medical use of marijuana for treatment in the United States, and no animal or human data supported the safety or efficacy of marijuana for general medical use."
Maybe if they had decided from the beginning that marijuana can do more good than harm, we could have been saving more of these poor sick, suffering people from; cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, etc.
But the time has finally come my friends. thanks to Marijuana Activists, fighting for the legality of cannabis, in an article written by Joel Warner from IBTIMES, Warner stated "The DEA has rejected two other marijuana rescheduling petitions since in the past, but now there’s a glimmer of hope among activists that change could finally be in the works. As first reported last week by the Huffington Post, in a recent letter to a group of Democratic senators, the DEA referenced a 2011 petition to reschedule cannabis to Schedule II, noting, “DEA understands the widespread interest in the prompt resolution to these petitions and hopes to release its determination in the first half of 2016".

This is great news because it allows marijuana to be conducted in more research.  So far through the help of CMTLaboratories we have seen many benefits of Cannabis. Below is a chart of a few cannabinoids in the cannabis plant that CMT Labs has conducted research within some illnesses, or pain related symptoms.

According to CMT Laboratories, there has been many findings that cannabis has helped in many different illness. One for example is  findings obtained from the Radbound University, in the Netherlands "the cannabinoid system has been shown to have a vital role in dampening the effects of pro-epileptic events and vice versa: agonists of cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) retard the development of kindling". Another finding from the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, "THC exhibits antitumor effects on various cancer cell types, but its use in chemotherapy is limited by is psychotropic activity. Results obtained in a panel of tumor cell lines clearly indicate that, of the five natural compounds tested, cannabidiol is the most potent inhibitor of cancer cell growth."

The marijuana industry has been booming the past few years in sales made and income, but what should be talked about is not only the lack of research, but the research that has been conducted in which we all as young adults in this social society can come together to promote more research for cannabis and health.

So i start to do some research on the benefits on medical cannabis,  it really starts to excite me for what the future has in store for this plant. I have started my research, through everyday patients that walk in on the medical side of the marijuana dispensary. I have a patient that has had seizures for the past 5 years, and the only thing that has helped prevent them from coming back was these Cannabis Tears (which are TCH and CBD capsules that go up to 900mg of total Cannabinoids. i just thought it was so amazing that someone, that has epilepsy, like my father, uses a CBD, TCH infused capsule to help regulate is epileptic episodes.

I am also following this no-profit organization called the "Impact Network" IMPACT NETWORK" where they have a bunch of studies that have been going on with cannabis, and in this case more focused on epeleptic patients. I have started my research focusing on epileptic patients and whether or not the cannabis plant has been beneficial. Farther along in my research, i will expand to cancer, arthritis, and many other illnesses that have potential in either being cured, and regulated. there has been clinical trials started at the University of Colorado taking patients in for studies on whether or not children with epilepsy are able to reduce their episodes by taking these cannabis oils.

In a clinical study in 1978, performed by the "Division of Pediatric Neurology, University of Utah School of Medicine and Primary Children's Hospital, lead by Dr. Francis M Fillous, MD, helped an individual by the name of Carlini Mechoulam, who had a form of epilepsy. Dr. Filloux gave Mechoulam a dosage of 200mg/day for 3 months of a 50/50 CBD mixture and Mechoulam was siezure free. Below is a table of the clinical study.

First Post

Hello, my name is Emil Ortiz, and I am creating a blog about the pros and cons on  Medical Cannabis. I have moved to Colorado from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to prove my DOCTOR parents that cannabis should not be looked at as an illegal substance, but a plant that can be used for medicinal purposes. Cannabis has been used to help individuals with, cancer, arthritis, epilepsy and many other illnesses. My father has suffered from epilepsy for as long as i can remember, and I am tired of seeing him suffer with many prescription drugs, and a surgery, that ultimately, had to to remove a portion of his left temporal lobe of his brain. All i want is the best for my father, so I have come to learn and inform people of the pro's and con's of Cannabis, mainly Medicinal Cannabis.
