First Post

Hello, my name is Emil Ortiz, and I am creating a blog about the pros and cons on  Medical Cannabis. I have moved to Colorado from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to prove my DOCTOR parents that cannabis should not be looked at as an illegal substance, but a plant that can be used for medicinal purposes. Cannabis has been used to help individuals with, cancer, arthritis, epilepsy and many other illnesses. My father has suffered from epilepsy for as long as i can remember, and I am tired of seeing him suffer with many prescription drugs, and a surgery, that ultimately, had to to remove a portion of his left temporal lobe of his brain. All i want is the best for my father, so I have come to learn and inform people of the pro's and con's of Cannabis, mainly Medicinal Cannabis.

  1. This is a very good topic and could provide relief to many people. The history of how cannabis become illegal seems to be one of politics and big business. To refresh my memory I had to Google it and seems it also had racism involved. Here is the link http://www.drugpolicy.org/blog/how-did-marijuana-become-illegal-first-place. Kind of strange how it became illegal actually had nothing to do with the use of cannabis but was mostly social pressures.

  2. Emil,

I find your topic very interesting because I wonder what the benefits are and how exactly it helps. I see how people use it for many things from arthritis to cancer. Things I would suggest to include are how exactly does medical cannabis help people who are ill. What does it do to the body that "heals". I would also include the different forms it comes in like oils, capsules and if one form works better than the other.

  3. I think this topic is interesting considering cannabis was legalized in the state of Colorado a while back, I think there are pro's and con's, but I think visually and word of mouth you hear more pro's. Some things you could add to the topic is see the difference between oils and edibles, and see if health wise it benefits a person more. Some questions that could be asked, can it lead to symptoms like withdrawals, short term memory loss, appetite common side affects. The one thing that I agree with is that cannabis does help individuals, such as your father and others through illness, I think it can greatly benefit an individual.

  4. Emil,
I'm sorry to hear about the problems your father has gone through. I agree with you that cannabis has many medicinal purposes. It seems you have a good motivation to prove the medicinal benefits of cannabis. Are both of your parents doctors? I think you will find many healing benefits as you dig deeper. The government had admitted that cannabis kills cancer cells and helps with nausea and pain. Check it out on this site: http://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/patient/cannabis-pdq
